We celebrated Valentine’s Day by having lunch at Bite at the Hotel Murano in downtown Tacoma. Earlier we had seen signs for a special businessman’s lunch at Bite that would only take an hour. We walked over to the hotel on Tuesday, February 14. The employee at the desk just inside told us that the restaurant was two floors up. Hotel Murano is named after the region of Italy famous for its glass art. The first floor had some impressive glass art from Murano, some Chihuly pieces and some nice glass chandeliers. We climbed up a couple of stair flights to the floor with the restaurant. Just up the stairs they had a glass sculpture based on a child’s drawing of a cute green monster.
Bite restaurant is long and narrow with booths along one side and a long bar along the other. We noticed that they had some modern Chilewich placemats similar to those we had seen at some designer home items stores in Seattle and Long Beach many years before. Their menu was only 1-2 pages long with sections for small bites, salads, and more of a bite. Small bites included a lobster corn dog. It wasn’t very crowded though a few other booths were occupied. We overheard the server tell another couple that they were smart to come for lunch rather than dinner when it would be very crowded for Valentine’s Day.
We ordered and our meals came fairly quickly. My wife got the lobster roll. It was chunks of lobster in a mayo sauce on a bed of leafy greens all on a long toasted roll. It came with fries. She enjoyed the lobster on the roll with the greens. The fries were crispy. My order also came with fries or “chips” because it was the micro-brewed fish and chips. It was made with flavorful halibut and was one large piece. It also came with tartar sauce and a cabbage fennel slaw made with strips of the namesake ingredients along with slices of red and yellow bell pepper. It had a good, spicy flavor. Everything tasted as good as it looked and was a lot of food.
For dessert my wife had a banana milkshake. Lunch was so much food that she brought most of it home and had it later. I think lunch took a little bit over an hour but not much. We returned home well satisfied and sure we would return to Bite sometime.
